Despite advancement in certain areas of life in Sri Lanka, it remains a developing nation with insufficient public funds to provide appropriate medical care and hospital facilities outside of the main hubs.
Batticaloa is one such area, located nearly 350 kilometers from Colombo on the far eastern coast of the country. Even though it has the largest tertiary care institution in the Eastern Province, it has pressing needs for modern facilities and more operating theaters to provide adequate care to the nearly two million citizens who live in that area.
Project BEAP was initiated under the National Trauma Service In Sri Lanka. The Teaching Hospital in Batticaloa was in urgent need of a modern Emergency and Trauma Centre, therefore gave the project the acronym BEAP (Batticaloa Emergency and Accident Project). The project expects to expand, develop and modernize the facilities provided in the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.
Manitha Neyam Trust is also a proud sponsor for this noble initiative and we thank our donors for enabling us to take part in advancing a great project.
