We were able to visit Kaipugalla Tamil Vidyalayam, where a vegetable garden was planted to provide a sustainable solution to the high inflation of food costs in a largely impoverished area.

We met the vegetable garden coordinator, Prashanth of ACT, Ramalingam the gardener, and Ms. Cysilia the schoolteacher in charge, other teachers. We were also able to meet with about 20 of the students.

They showed us around the vegetable plots which were implemented months ago and have since been thriving, growing many different kinds of vegetables. It’s been very beneficial for the kids, not only to nutritionally feed them, but also to teach them life skills to stand on their own two feet and be there for each other as a community.

The Academy of Community Transformation (ACT), headed by Mr Anthony Mathew, actively monitors and implements this ongoing project funded by MNT, with the help of the school principal and teachers.  We are very proud and praise this community for coming together to uplift each other, and look forward to seeing this garden and the children flourish further.
