This week, we were able to visit the Valluvar Library that was created in the renovated old Delmar Tamil Primary School building, last year. We were greeted by school principal Mr. Nandakumar, the Valluvar Manram youth volunteers, like Nesan & Badhujan, Theepan, Sathyakala, & the librarian Prabhadevi.
They explained about the Valluvar Manrams’ activities, and the library’s activities. The children demonstrated their speech, poetry, and singing and dancing to everyone in the library. A special little girl, Bhavatharini, who used to keep to herself, has blossomed into a thriving young lady, demonstrated her singing ability, after many months of coming to the library. We also had an informal discussion, about the importance of education, along with continuing to nurture all of the artistic talents they showcased.
The Valluvar Mantram is working on adding a smart classroom in the adjacent room next to the library. This will help the children in village expand their knowledge in everything using the latest technology. The librarian Prabhadevi and other role models like the youth volunteer Sathyakala take care of the library and the children with such compassion and care. The youth volunteer Badhujan has English and IT education which will be fantastic for the kids to start their education in those subjects at a young age. The youth volunteers Dilushan, Nesan and others more truly are the best at empowering these kids and ensuring the success of this project. We loved seeing how this group of people came together to empower the children.
At the primary school close by, the principal, teachers and the Valluvar Manram are working together to uplift the community, and hope this partnership serves as a model for other communities like the one in Delmar Estate.
MNT is happy to be associated in funding this project and look forward to seeing how much further this blooms in the future!
