Recently, we visited the Amma Veedu Childcare Home in Batticaloa, which is
run by LIFT NGO. This home main mission is to provide employment to women
from either women-led or single-mother families, through training for
various employment options to provide for their children. Earlier this year,
MNT and LIFT partnered to open a children daycare center, providing
childcare for working mothers. This project is run by LIFT NGO and funded by
MNT.
At this home, we met with the home manager, Mrs. Udayakumari, the accountant
Mrs. Chandra, the financial director of LIFT Mr. Jebarajah, and the CEO of
LIFT Mrs. Janu Muralitharan, along with the home caretakers. We took a tour
and discussed how the operations of the home were going, and what potential
plans were under review to expand services of Amma Veedu.
We were so happy to see how well this project is going, to create employment
for local women in the area and providing the much-needed childcare to
empower women to do so. We thank our donors for their endless support of
rural projects like this, and LIFT NGO for being a great on-the-ground
partner!
