Theeraniyam is a center located in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka’s East coast. The center provides education and therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In the past, these autistic children either remained at home, attended common schools without guidance, or were sent to centers for children with a mental disability, but did not receive any adapted care.
In Theeraniyam, specialized teaching methods are being used to allow autistic children to develop themselves and learn effectively. Adolescents with mild ASD can continue onto common schools under supervision of Theeraniyam.
As a support to this effort, Manitha Neyam Trust works closely with the Theeraniyam and supports them in various activities. MNT has been funding the salaries of the teachers on a monthly basis for the last 3 years.
