On August 20, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved with the official handing over of the Clean Water Supply project at Valamalai Estate. The ceremony was graced by Prof. Nadaraja Shreeharan (UK), a member of the Manitha Neyam Trust, who represented the Trust that funded the project. The implementation of this vital project was carried out by the International Medical Health Organization (IMHO-USA).
The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Mr. I.M. Senanayake, the Assistant Government Agent, Mr. R. Wijendran, Zonal Education Director, Mr. S. Rajaweeran, Secretary of the Maskeliya Pradeshiya Sabha, the NGO Coordinator for the Norwood DS area, and Gramasevagar’s administrative officers, Grama Niladhari of Seethagangula, Senior Public Health Inspector Mr. P.M. Bashkaran, various government officers, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Nallathaniya Police Station, and the Superintendent of Valamalai Estate, Mr. Herath, also attended, alongside estate officers.
The project, valued at approximately 7 Million Sri Lankan Rupees, will benefit 452 families, including more than 2,000 individuals. Over 1,000 people from Valamalai Estate participated in the ceremony, marking the project’s completion and its significant impact on the community. Mr. Kandiah Vigneshwaran, the Project Director of IMHO, led the ceremony as the IMHO representative, supported by IMHO staff.
This initiative exemplifies the commitment of the Manitha Neyam Trust and IMHO to improving the lives of estate workers and their families by ensuring access to clean and safe water. We thank our donors for their continued support to positively impact these communities.
