The children of Thiruvalluvar Tamil Maha Vidyalayam in Maskeliya’s Vaalamalai Estate have a new reason to smile. On June 8, 2025, their brand-new school building was officially inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in educational development for the plantation community.
Prof. Nadarajah Sreeharan a Trustee of the Manitha Neyam Trust, had the honor of cutting the ribbon on this impressive facility. The project, which cost approximately 10 million Sri Lankan Rupees.
This wasn’t just a small community gathering—the inauguration drew significant attention from educational leaders across the Central Province. Senior officials including Mr. T.K. Gunathilakka from the Ministry of Chief Minister and Education, Provincial Director of Education Mr. Nihal Alagakon, and Zonal Education Director Mr. R. Wijendran were all present to witness this important moment. The strong turnout of principals from neighboring schools and In-Service Advisors highlighted just how much this project means to the broader educational community.
The initiative represents a powerful collaboration between the International Medical Health Organization (IMHO) and the Manitha Neyam Trust, with Mr. Sivananthaselvan, the school’s principal, leading the coordination efforts. Key project figures including IMHO’s Project Director Mr. Kandiah Vigneshwaran and Plantation Education Coordinator Mr. M.P. Chandreseharan were also on hand to celebrate the achievement.
For the more than 310 students who will benefit from this new facility, the building represents far more than just upgraded infrastructure—it’s a gateway to better educational opportunities and a brighter future. The project stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when local communities, international organizations, and generous donors come together with a shared vision of educational advancement.
