Manitha Neyam Trust (MNT) Projects in the Northern Province (July 2025 – June 2026) – July 21, 2026

With a steadfast commitment to advancing education and improving the quality of life in underserved communities, Manitha Neyam Trust (MNT) proudly implemented a wide range of educational and livelihood initiatives across Sri Lanka’s Northern Province during the twelve-month period from July 2025 to June 2026.

Transforming Education Through Smart Classrooms

We are delighted to announce the successful establishment of Smart Classrooms at the following schools:

1.      Oottupulam Government Tamil Mahavidyalayam, Kilinochchi

2.      Suntharapuram Saraswathi Vidyalayam, Vavuniya

3.      Pandaravanniyan Maha Vidyalayam, Oddusuddan, Mullaitivu

These modern, technology-enabled learning environments, made possible through the generosity of MNT’s donors, are transforming the educational experience by providing students and teachers with access to digital learning resources and interactive teaching tools. They are helping bridge the digital divide while equipping students with the knowledge and technological skills needed for the future.

Expanding Digital Learning Resources

To further strengthen technology-based education, Smart TVs were donated to:

·       Kidachchuri Karuvappankulam Government Tamil Mixed School, Vavuniya

·       Gowriambal Tamil Mahavidyalayam, Thirukketheeswaram, Mannar

·       Neththaliyaru Tamil Vidyalayam,  Visuvamadu, Mullaitivu

In addition, Nainativu Sriganesah Kanista Mahavidyalayam in the Jaffna Zone received both a Smart TV and a Desktop Computer, further enhancing its digital learning capabilities.

Strengthening School Infrastructure

To improve access to educational resources and support day-to-day school operations, MNT donated:

Photocopiers (3-in-1 Copier, Scanner & Printer)

·       Sinnavalayankaddu Government Tamil Mixed School, Vavuniya

·       Mallavi Central College, Mullaitivu

Color Printer

·       Panrikeithakulam Government Tamil Mixed School, Omanthai, Vavuniya

Sound System

·       Muthaliyarkulam Roman Catholic Tamil Mahavidyalayam, Chettikulam, Vavuniya

Essential School Furniture

Cupboards for the secure storage of school records and educational materials were provided to:

·       Karunkalikulam Government Tamil Mixed School, Mamadu, Vavuniya

·       Poovarankulam Primary Vidyalayam, Vavuniya

Providing Safe Drinking Water

Access to clean drinking water remains a major challenge in several communities.

To address this need, MNT donated a desalination plant capable of converting saline well water into safe drinking water to:

·       Varany Central College, Jaffna Zone

This project will provide students and staff with a reliable source of clean drinking water for many years to come.

Supporting Students Through Transportation

To help reduce long walking distances and improve school attendance, bicycles were provided to deserving students from:

·       Adampan, Mannar

·       Vaddakandal, Mannar

·       Thirukketheeswaram, Mannar

·       Eluthur, Mannar

These bicycles enable students to travel to school more efficiently, allowing them to spend more time studying and participating in school activities.

Empowering Families Through Livelihood Assistance

Beyond education, MNT continued its commitment to empowering vulnerable families and persons with disabilities by providing sustainable livelihood assistance.

Sewing Machines

Sewing machines were donated to women-headed households in:

·       Selvanagar, Mannar

·       Samalankulam, Vavuniya

Tube Wells

Tube wells were installed for deserving families in:

·       Vaddakandal, Mannar

·       Vellankulam, Mannar

Roadside Business

A roadside shop was established for a person with special needs on:

·       Pannankandy Road, Kilinochchi

These initiatives are helping families generate sustainable income, improve their quality of life, and build greater financial independence.
