NURSE ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAM

Along with the Institute of Medical Science, the Trust developed a Healthcare Assistant (Nurse Aid) training program at the Manipai Green Memorial Hospital. Thirty girls from the North and North East of SriLanka enrolled in this initial one-year training program. As part of their program, the students spent time working with the residents of the Sivapoomi Elderly Home. All thirty students who participated in the program completed the course and all of them subsequently obtained employment in the Healthcare industry in the North and North East of Sri Lanka. Following the success of the program, a further batch of thirty two students have recently been selected and have now begun the Healthcare Assistant training program. Programs of this nature satisfy the multiple objectives of providing much-needed services in the region; employment and support, particularly for the elderly and vulnerable in the region.
