Manitha Neyam Trust recently visited Social Economical & Environmental Developers (SEED) during our trip to the region. During this visit, we had the opportunity to witness firsthand the meaningful impact of their work and to interact with several of their beneficiaries.
Founded in 1995, SEED’s mission is to support communities affected by the three-decade-long internal conflict in the Vavuniya district of north-central Sri Lanka. The organization is dedicated to serving marginalized groups, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), families living below the poverty line, single mothers, and individuals with special needs. SEED places strong emphasis on teamwork and gender inclusivity in all its initiatives.
Their work spans a range of critical areas, including community-based rehabilitation, education, sustainable agriculture, and resettlement. In particular, SEED provides educational support to children with special needs through online, offline, and home-based programs. The establishment of their Empowerment Campus ensures that children with autism, Down syndrome, and hearing or speech impairments are not left behind, and that their educational needs are effectively met.
