We propose to identify the needs of children who are in various camps who were caught up in the recent catastrophe and endeavour to alleviate their suffering. In this connection we would like to advise that at present we are not permitted to visit the camps to assess the situation. We will try to do this with the assistance of the Government Agents of Vavuniya and Mannar. If we are permitted we will try and visit the camps for the purposes of identifying the needs of the children.
When we are able to visit the camps, we will keep our donors informed of the details.
In the meantime we propose to create a special fund titled "Vanni Children's Beneficiary Fund" and would like to receive donations from those who would like to participate in our efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the affected children. We appeal to the well wishers interested in this project to contribute their donations.
During the past few months several persons who lived in the Vanni region had been subjected to trauma unparallel in the history of this country and faced severe hardship. All of them have lost their houses and personal belongings. In most cases they have lost one or members of their family and in some cases they have lost the bread winner of the family. This is a very pathetic situation.
We have decided to assess the requirements of most families at the right time and assist the affected persons to restart their life. Towards this aim we may be called upon to incur heavy expenditure.
